This is a good arrangement as the MLOs do not have to invest money in making huge inventory of containers. Demand for containers fluctuates according to demand in trade around the world. Leasing companies have agents all around the world and MLOs can pick up containers according to their short term needs. Leasing companies have both short term and long term leasing arrangements with most major MLOs of the World.

Generally SAPL offers the following services for the leasing companies:
- Accepting the off-hire container to gate-in from any client subject to prior approval of the leasing company
- Conducting gate-in survey and updating the gate-in with the survey details on their own systems
- Arrange to update repair estimates in their own systems if any container is required by the principal
- Arrange to repair after getting approval from them
- Updating repaired information on the systems
- Deliver containers to the clients subject to prior release order/approval of the principal
- Updating the gate-out details electronically in their system
- Sending stock reports (quarterly) by mail
